Meet the Members: Lanna Gell

Meet Lanna, one of our longest-standing members and a staple of the 6am crew! Find out all about her CrossFit journey below:

⭐️ How long have you been doing CrossFit & what inspired you to start?

10 years! 😅 I wasn’t keen at all to start, the image I had of CrossFit was a bunch of ‘harry hard outs’. I was finally coerced by one of my Les Mills instructors who knew me well to give it a go.. Turns out I was wrong and have never looked back!

⭐️ Favorite CrossFit workout or movement?

I enjoy the team and partner workouts with lots of different movements, skills, and disciplines.

⭐️ Biggest CrossFit achievement or PR?*

Recently being able to get back into rig movements like chest to bars and muscle ups after a fully ruptured latissimus dorsi 😩

⭐️What’s your favorite post-workout recovery meal or snack?*

Protein shake

⭐️ What motivates you to keep coming back each day?*

CrossFit stops me from turning into a gremlin 🤣 I need it for my mental sanity. But it’s also the small things, the laughs with the 6am crew and Trudie Malone, the times when you surprise yourself, or someone else’s effort that inspire me to keep coming back.

⭐️ Any favourite CrossFit athletes or role models?*

Everyday people learning new skills and challenging themselves. Getting their first pull up, learning to handstand walk, or people who turn up day after day and become new regulars at the box 🙌

⭐️ What’s your go-to workout gear or CrossFit apparel brand?*

Usually FLEO – but the US dollar makes it tough to afford these days 💸 so the wod life currently

⭐️ Any advice for someone new to CrossFit or considering trying it?*

If you want community, variety, adaptability, and something you can choose how hard you challenge yourself. CrossFit is for you. If you’re new; my advice is to be consistent, coachable, and focus on quality over quantity.

⭐️ Favorite thing about the CrossFit community Thirtyoneten?*

We’re all there for the same reason – To take care of our fitness and well-being, and support each other in the small everyday moments.

Get a ring muscle up 🔥

Just show up and do what you can, even if you don’t feel like it. You’ll be most proud of yourself in these moments and supports why you do what you do.

⭐️ Do you have any hobbies outside of CrossFit that you’d like to share?*

Caravanning, walking Tovi (my dog) 🐶, golf, snowboarding, mountain biking.
